The third screening of the autumn KAVI Regional Film Series features Seitsemän veljestä (1939), directed by Wilho Ilmari.
The KAVI Regional Series is a film series organised by the National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI), the Central Finland Film Centre (KSEK) and the Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY), showing classic films on 35 mm film at Ilokivi Venue.

Director Wilho Ilmari, known for several film adaptations of Mika Waltari’s works, adapted Aleksis Kivi’s novel Seitsemän veljestä (The Seven Brothers) with support from Waltari himself, who co-wrote the screenplay with Kalle Kaarna. The project also featured Edvin Laine, often referred to by film historian Peter von Bagh as “Finland’s national director.” Laine is best known for his films “The Unknown Soldier” and the Niskavuori series, and in this project, he makes his film debut by portraying the eldest brother, Juhani.
