KAVI movie: That’s Dancing! (1985)

The KAVI Regional Series is a film series organised by the National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI), the Central Finland Film Centre (KSEK) and the Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY), showing classic films on 35 mm film at Ilokivi Venue.

Jack Haley Jr., the son of Jack Haley —famous for his role as the Tin Man in the iconic film The Wizard of Oz (1939)— became notable not only because of his father’s fame but also for marrying Liza Minnelli, the daughter of Judy Garland, who starred in The Wizard of Oz. Additionally, Haley Jr. gained recognition for skillfully creating several acclaimed compilation films that examined Hollywood’s recent history. His film That’s Dancing! provides a comprehensive overview of American screen dancing, showcasing several golden eras of Hollywood from the 1920s to the early 1980s. The film includes the dance sequence of the Scarecrow that was cut from the final version of The Wizard of Oz, as well as some of the most memorable dance performances in styles such as swing, tap, ballet, disco, and breakdancing.
