KAVI movie: The Heroes of Telemark (1965)

The KAVI Regional Series is a film series organised by the National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI), the Central Finland Film Centre (KSEK) and the Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY), showing classic films on 35 mm film at Ilokivi Venue.

Anthony Mann, best known for his classic westerns with James Stewart, such as Winchester ’73 and The Man from Laramie, recounts the story of a Norwegian resistance group in his second-to-last film. Their mission is to destroy a Nazi base in the Norwegian mountains, where “heavy water” was being developed for the atomic bomb. This action classic, based on true events, stars the legendary Kirk Douglas (Paths of Glory and Spartacus) and Richard Harris (The Guns of Navarone).
